The American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys (AAPWA) is an organization of attorneys who represent the state and local government agencies that administer public welfare and/or human services programs. The mission of the AAPWA is to provide a forum at national, state, and regional levels for the discussion of legal matters pertaining to public welfare and/or human services, and to provide for cordial exchange of experience and knowledge related to the development of public welfare and/or human services policy.
Each fall the AAPWA holds a four-day national training and continuing education conference bringing together federal, state, and local government attorneys to exchange information and ideas on a wide variety of topics of interest to its membership. These include Medicaid, public assistance and child welfare law, as well as topics of more general interest. AAPWA members consult electronically throughout the year, sharing information and assisting each other as legal issues develop. The AAPWA also publishes a newsletter and sponsors other forums to support the work of public welfare attorneys.
We invite you to explore this site, and learn more about what the AAPWA has to offer.
